Craft a Week- Week 19

Hello crafters! Week 19 brought Mother's Day crafts. A couple months ago Melinda, a second mother to me, posted a picture of a bird bath she wanted for her birthday. Her birthday is the same week of Mother's Day so I thought I'd make one for her and the same thing for my mom, step-mom, and mother-in-law. (Melinda thought I forgot about the picture, but I remembered).

This was the picture she posted. So I got pots and saucers from Lowes. From Hobby Lobby I got tiles, adhesive, grout, and sealant. I played with the tiles to figure out a pattern I liked.

Tiles glued in place...

Grout...

And Ta-Da!

Melinda wanted a double pot, but all the others I made minis :) After the grout dried, I brushed the sealant on. I also brushed sealant on the pot so it would match the sheen of the saucer.

Kepp on crafting,
Paige :)

Craft a Week- Week 18

Hello crafters! For week 18, I revisited a craft from March- Sharpie mugs! My aunt and uncle celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary (congrats!) on May 3rd. My dad and step-mom threw them an anniversary party that weekend. I wanted to bring a gift, and of course it had to be crafty. I really liked the way Carlee's mugs turned out from her wedding so I thought it'd be a perfect gift.

I got the mugs from Wal-Mart and I used a gold marker since the theme of the party was gold.

I included their date and a scripture of love from Colossians. I also added a lil happy heart inside the mugs.

Nanna didn't want anyone to bring gifts for their party, but I just couldn't help myself. I'm very pleased with the way they turned out. (reference week 12 for more detailed instructions)

Craft a Week- Week 17

Hello crafters! Week 17's craft came from adorable clothes I kept seeing on Pinterest- studded shorts. I wanted to distress the shorts and add studs. I found the studs at Hobby Lobby. They were in the jewelry section so they had holes in them for beading so I used jewel glue to adhere them. I created my own pattern for the studs. As far as distressing, I followed a video I found on YouTube. >>> Distressing Denim The video was super simple to follow. Taking out the blue strands piece by piece was time consuming, but worth it. After I wash and dry the shorts, the distressed part will look more worn in.

Craft a Week- Week 16

Week 16 my crafty friends! This week I was inspired by a few finds in my sister's garage sale- old silverware. She gave it to me and I just knew I'd make something out of it. I came across photos of garden decor made out of old kitchen items on Pinterest. I decided to make a wind chime.

I used fishing line, clear beads from Hobby Lobby, a metal strainer I never use, and the silverware. I had my neighbor drill holes in the handle of the silverware. Then I strung them on the fishing wire, added beads, and tied it to the metal strainer. I alternated between different bead shapes and different pieces of silverware. For the middle piece, I put all the mix-match beads I had left together and added a slotted spoon.

And ta-da! I also curled the pieces on the fork. I wanted to hang it outside, but it looked so cute in my kitchen window!

Craft a Week- Week 15

Hello crafters! Week 15's craft is something that has been a work in progress. My dear friend Carlee had an absolutely stunning wedding with bouquets upon bouquets of fresh flowers. I wanted to preserve some of that beauty for her. I took home a bouquet and pressed it. Now I'm not a professional presser, and I didn't have many heavy things around the house. So I gathered up what I could.

Here's one of her smaller bouquets.

Some of the flowers after they were pressed. I did a layer of news paper, then white paper, flowers, white paper, then newspaper. After a week I changed the paper. Then I left them alone for 3-4 more weeks. Everything pressed out perfect except the hydrangea. I turned black in the middle :(

I bought a white matted frame from Hobby Lobby and used small dots of glue to hold the flowers down. I adore the finished product! I'm sure Carlee has the perfect picture to put inside :)

Craft a Week- Week 14

Hello crafters! While on my weekly stroll around Hobby Lobby, I saw a craft idea in the jewelery aisle. It was one of those featured ideas that they have on the hangers throughout some of the aisles. It was for bracelets using deer skin cord.

I bought 3 colors of cord, clamps, rings, and a closure. I used some random pliers I found in my husband's tool bag to do the clamps and rings.

The dark brown bracelet I did a sailor's knot. The turquoise bracelet is a braid. I tried making a fancy braid- it turned out not so cute, so I changed it to a plain braid. The light brown bracelet is three strands that wrap around my wrist 2 times.

Craft a Week- Week 13

Hello crafters! I didn't forget about my crafts; I lost my camera... I refused to use my phone camera bc the resolution isn't that great. I finally broke down and used my phone bc I was getting so far behind. The good news is I found my camera! Yay! I actually put it in the drawer where it belongs. I looked everywhere but there.... I swear I'll get my brain back one day. So here goes---

After Carlee's wedding I was in a springy mood. I've been purchasing lots of different flowers for the front and back yard. Now I don't have the greenest thumb just yet, so I wanted to save all those little tags that come with flowers when you buy them. I decided to make a garden book. I alphabetized the flowers. On each page I included name, where in the garden it is, if it's an annual or perennial, and the original tag. I also kept all the receipts (at Lowes, if you have the original receipt, they will take the plant back. Even if it's dead! And I'll be the first to say I kill my fair share).

Sorry I don't have any more pics. I guess I deleted them! I used a 1in binder with clear page protectors. The paper and embellishments are from Hobby Lobby.

Craft a Week- Week 12

Well crafters, I've been doing a craft a week for 12 weeks now, yay! I have had so much fun crafting each week. Week 12's craft was a gift for one of dearest friends- Carlee Cohen now Supak :) She got married on March 23rd. I wanted to make her something special to remind her of her wedding. In numerous places I've seen where you can write on a mug or plate with a sharpie and bake it in the oven to set the marker. I know she's an avid tea drinker, so I wanted to make her a "his and hers" mug set.

I started off with two mugs I got from Target. I loved the sweet little dot detail at the top.

I wrote on the mug, the handle, and inside. Then baked 30 minutes at 350 degrees.

They said "good morning handsome" and "good morning beautiful." Each had a heart with "Mr. & Mrs." on the other side.

"I <3 U" on the inside

Their wedding date on the handle.

Being a recent bride, I enjoyed getting a special gift on the day of my wedding. I wanted Carlee to get something special on her big day too.

Craft a Week- Week 11

This week's craft is super fun and I am super pleased with the results! Let's begin... Ombre is super hot right now. I had ombre put in my hair 6 months ago and loved it. So I came across a Pinterest pin with timing for making an ombre shirt.

I got a white t-shirt and blue dye from Hobby Lobby. I used an old bucket to put the dye in.

I wore gloves so I didn't dye my hands. I used a timer and went by the times shown on the pic above. I started at the bottom for 10 minutes and went up the shirt. After the 30 second mark I dunked the entire shirt in the dye and pulled it back out. I wanted the ombre to start with light blue instead of white.

Here's the shirt while it was still wet.

And here it is dry after I washed it. I LOVE it! The ombre is perfect <3

Craft a Week- Week 10

Sorry I've gotten behind my crafty followers! I've doing my crafts weekly, but haven't found the time to post them, until now. Week 10's craft was my mom's idea. She wanted blingy shoes for the summer. We purchased cheap flip flops from Target and rhinestones from Hobby Lobby.

I added black rhinestones to the flip flops with the bow.

Then I added the silver rhinestones and the silver embellishment to the black flip flops.

This craft was SUPER easy to do. And it was a fun way to dress up plain shoes. I used a flexible jewel glue for the stones and E6000 for the beaded embellishment. Thanks mom for the idea!

Craft a Week- Week 9

A week ago my sister gave me a vintage makeup vanity. Let me tell you, I absolutely adore having a vanity! I love being able to sit down and put on my makeup and fix my hair. With dry time, flat iron, and applying makeup, it takes up a good 40 to 45 minutes; that's just too much standing. Haha! Now that I have a vanity, I don't need to keep my makeup in one of those makeup bags. My craft this week is makeup organization and decorating the vanity. I wanted to make a brush holder and a flower arrangement.

This is how I started the flower arrangement. I got a floral vase and lace by the yard from Hobby Lobby. I used Modge Podge and applied it directly to the lace over the vase.

After it dried, I added a satin ribbon around the middle and embellished it with a pearl and rhinestone brooch. I made a hydrangea bouquet to put in the vase.

Next I took the smaller vases I bought and added the same satin ribbon and a black flower.

I added my eye brushes in one vase, and my face brushes in another.

Next came the makeup organization part. This is my everyday makeup. I also have a whole basket full of more shadows and powders. I went through all the stuff I never wore and threw it away.

Shadows...

Powders...

Base and eyes...

Ta-Da! Finished product!!! I love the way everything turned out. I look forward to getting ready in the mornings.

Craft a Week- Week 8

I broke the news of this week's craft kinda early on Facebook. While on my weekly trip to Hobby Lobby, I found premade pillow case shells for $4.99-$7.99. They were 50% off on top of that. I can't even buy fabric for that cheap! So I grabbed 3 different styles- 2 each. My granny (well I call her mine, she's really Bobbs' granny) had a whole box of stuffing left over from one of her projects, so I used that to fill the pillow cases.

They are super easy to fill and have zipper closures.

Even the puggies like them :)

They are a super cheap way to add a little pizazz to the living room.
I'll probably add a few more later...

Craft a Week- Week 7

Hello friends! Sorry I haven't been posting on my blog the past couple of weeks; my life has been a crazy roller coaster. Fortunately my crafts have kept my mind busy. With that, let's dive into a new craft.

We have two small windows in our kitchen. One has an ugly window unit in it, and the other has metal mini-blinds. I must say I really hate metal blinds, they look so cheap. So I decided to revamp the windows with new window treatments. My sister is moving and asked if I wanted anything in her current house. She has these really beautiful lace window valances. Being that I am a sucker for anything lacey and vintage, I snatched them right up. They are the inspiration for the window treatments. I wanted to keep the panels simple so I just bought unbleached muslin. The light cream color of the muslin complimented the antique patina of the lace valances.

I measured my windows and doubled the fabric for each so the curtains would have a full effect.

I ironed the fabric first.

I hemmed the edges and created a pocket at top of the panel for the curtain rod to go through.

I just got those metal, clip on rods so the panels would cover the window completely (so there isn't a gap of space on the edges).

I just love the look these give our kitchen.
(forgot to tie these back when I took the pic)

My husband had decorated the kitchen with a wine theme before I ever moved in. I must say I'm pretty proud, he did a good job. I'm trying incorporate a little french country into the wine theme. The airy panels and the lace are a perfect touch to the kitchen.
